In our shop, we use completely VOC-free oils or hard-wax hand-rubbed to finish our products. All of our finishes are safe for humans and the environment alike. The finishes we use are FDA compliant for food contact surfaces and include a mix of mineral oil, coconut oil, walnut oil, vitamin E, & waxes such as carnauba or beeswax.

In many cultures, ash trees are associated with life force energy.
The ash tree, with its mighty roots that sink deep into the ground, symbolizes the World Tree―a tree that joined the three worlds: the underworld, middle earth, and the spiritual realm. The ash tree is also linked with the blending of the past, present, and future. In a number of legends, it's connected to the gods, and considered sacred.

Texture can be achieved in a myriad of different ways. In the shop, we often use a wire brush to distress the wood because it will wear off the pulp of the wood grain, leaving the denser wood behind. This cleans the surface of the wood, brings out character, and leaves a more prominent wood grain.
