Ethics + Sustainability

Most wood coming out of our shop is either directly harvested by us or purchased from independent sawmills. We harvest wood from naturally fallen trees or by necessary trimming for the health of the trees and slowly air-dried in the shop. We also source from small independent sawmills, who either manage woodland around them or buy directly from local tree surgeons. The wood is milled and air-dried at these sawmills for a minimum of 18 months before it even comes to the workshop. Working in small batches means they are able to source more unusual and figured pieces of wood.

Finishing is often the most environmentally impactful part of woodworking. We do not use any sort of spray finishes. In our shop, we use completely VOC-free oils or hard-wax hand-rubbed to finish our products. All of our finishes are safe for humans and the environment alike. The finishes we use are FDA compliant for food contact surfaces and include a mix of mineral oil, coconut oil, walnut oil, vitamin E, & waxes such as carnauba or beeswax.

We also recycle as much of our waste as possible. We use the sawdust as kindling + all off-cuts are saved and either repurposed in other projects or used on our BBQ smoker.

We acknowledge that not all of our shipping materials are as eco-friendly or sustainable as we would prefer + our goal is to be using 100% recyclable shipping supplies within the next year.
